CATARACT LENS OPTIONS
When we remove a cataract, we replace your eye's natural lens with a clear artificial lens called an IOL (intraocular lens). The lens you choose affects how you see after surgery. We offer the following options.
Extended Range of Vision Lens
An extended depth of focus (EDOF) lens provides a continuous range of clear vision from distance through intermediate. Most patients can drive, use a computer, and perform daily tasks without glasses. Near fine print may still require readers. This is an upgraded option not covered by Medicare.
Toric Lens for Astigmatism
Patients with significant astigmatism often find that a standard lens still leaves distance vision blurry. A toric lens corrects astigmatism at the time of surgery, reducing or eliminating the need for glasses at distance. This is an upgraded option not covered by Medicare.
Light Adjustable Lens
The Light Adjustable Lens is the only IOL that can be customized after it has been placed in your eye. After your eye heals, your surgeon fine-tunes your prescription using brief UV light treatments in the office. Once your vision is dialed in, the prescription is permanently set. This is an upgraded option not covered by Medicare.
Standard Lens
A standard monofocal lens is covered by Medicare. Expect to wear glasses for distance and near after surgery. This is a proven, well-established option for patients whose primary goal is clearing their vision of the cataract.
