What To Expect On The Day Of Laser Eye Surgery

What to expect on the day of laser eye surgery

Although you may be a bit nervous about having laser eye surgery, you can feel at ease that you are in the competent hands with our surgeons. The day when your vision will change forever is finally here, however, there are some things that you’ll need to know about in order to properly prepare for the procedure.

Getting Ready for Surgery

On the morning of your surgical procedure, be sure to eat a light meal. Avoid wearing any makeup, heavy lotions, perfumes or jewelry. In order to maximize your comfort during the procedure, you may want to wear comfortable clothing. Remember to arrange for transportation to and from your surgery, as you will not be able to drive home afterwards.

Once you arrive at the clinic, our friendly eye-care professionals will let you retreat to a pre-operative room to relax. You will also be given several eyedrops which will help to prevent infection, inflammation and discomfort during the procedure.

Laser Eye Surgery

The surgery itself takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes. There may be some unique circumstances that might cause the procedure to take longer in some patients. Our surgeons will ensure your complete comfort during the procedure. They will explain each step of the surgical process to you as they are doing it, so you will know exactly what to expect at every moment. You can feel confident that there will be no unexpected surprises.

During the surgery, your eyes will be moistened and kept numb with eye drops. You may hear a consistent clicking sound coming from the laser which is completely normal. There are no stitches or needles involved in the process.

After the Surgery

Once the procedure is complete, your eyes may be sensitive to light. Our staff will perform an evaluation of your eyes. You will also be given eye guards to take home with you.

It is important to rest your eyes following the procedure. In the rare occasion that you experience minor eye pain, you may be instructed to take Advil or Ibuprofren. Our accomplished eye surgeons at The Eye Center of Southern Indiana want your laser eye surgery experience to bring optimal results. That is why we are here for you every step of the way.
