What is Blepharoplasty?

Sometimes, an abundance of skin around the eyes can create an unflattering facial appearance. The Eye Center of Southern Indiana offers eyelid surgery (known as blepharoplasty or an eye lift) to reduce excess skin and create a softer look that enhances your face's ability to convey emotion. If you're interested in refreshing your look with an eye lift, contact us to schedule a consultation with R. Daniel Grossman, M.D. or one of our other ophthalmologists in Bloomington, IN.

What Is Blepharoplasty Like?

During your private consultation, treatment options will be discussed with your doctor based on your conditions that need to be corrected. Generally, ideal candidates have excess, hanging skin and folds above their eyes or puffy skin below the bottom eyelid. Blepharoplasty involves making an incision along the natural crease of skin beneath the eyes and/or along the lash line above, allowing the surgeon to carefully remove excess skin and suture the remaining skin back together to tighten appearance. Eyelid surgery can last up to two hours, depending on whether one or both eyes are treated. After surgery, you should expect to take about a week to recover at home. Results from blepharoplasty can last a decade or longer, but even though they are long-lasting, the aging process will continue.
