Often called double vision or ghost images, diplopia is an eye condition that should be taken seriously. Patients with diplopia may see a certain single object twice (either horizontally or vertically) and may occur in one or both eyes. Double vision has many different central causes that range from mild to severe and is usually the result of an underlying condition. At The Eye Center of Southern Indiana, we take sudden changes in your vision very seriously and use a comprehensive approach to identify the underlying issue behind your diplopia. When you arrive for your consultation at our Bloomington, IN office, you will meet with one of our skilled eye doctors to talk about your symptoms and receive a personalized treatment plan.
DIPLOPIA CAUSES and TREATMENTS
Diplopia could be brought on by a number of complications, including common eye concerns, like dry eye syndrome. However, double vision can also be a sign of a more severe disease, like keratoconus, cataracts, or corneal dystrophy. In some cases, it may even be caused by an issue that's unrelated to your eyes, such as a brain tumor, brain swelling, a stroke, brain hemorrhage, or following a head injury. Some symptoms you may experience along with diplopia can include:
- Pain around the eyes
- Sagging eyelids
- Amblyopia (lazy eye)
Once our team has determined the cause behind your double vision, we will provide you with a personalized treatment plan to manage it. Some treatments for diplopia can include prescription eye drops or special eyewear. Certain cases may need to be referred out to a specialist.
"My husband had a chalazion removed from his lower eye lid, and we had a great experience! Everyone was so friendly, from the receptionist out front to Dr. Andrew Huck! It was a quick process, and Dr. Huck walked us through each step of the procedure. He made us feel so comfortable and cared for. Thank you for all you guys do!!"- E.W. / Yelp / Oct 06, 2021
"They are very thorough in caring for new patients. They are conscious of covid 19 protocols. The practice has both ophthalmologist as well as optometrists. In case you need eye surgery, the surgery center is on the lower level. As a new patient I appreciate what they have to offer for eye care."- M.H. / Yelp / Mar 25, 2021

"I just had my LASIK eye surgery done with Dr. Mackey at the Eye Center yesterday. I recommend it highly, and wish I had done it sooner. The staff was as sweet as can be, and I felt so comfortable the entire time. I would really like to thank Dr.Mackey, Dr Gray and Melissa for taking such good care of me. There was virtually no wait times which cut down on my nerves substantially. The procedure itself was completely painless and was over before I knew it. I’m super pleased with my experience:)"- C.E. / Yelp / Dec 04, 2015
